Mirthe Muilwijk is postdoctoral researcher at the department of Epidemiology & Data Science of Amsterdam UMC, Location VUmc. She is registered epidemiologist and her main interest lies in the effect of environmental exposures, including dietary intake, on type 2 diabetes. She is specifically interested in the intermediary role of metabolomics.
Mirthe studied Biomedical Sciences at Utrecht University, where she obtained her master degree in 2013. After graduation, she worked at the Food and Authenticity business unit of RIKILT Wageningen University Research. Mirthe’s PhD research was on type 2 diabetes among South Asians, as part of the EuroDHYAN project. She performed the work under the supervision of promotor Prof. Dr. Karien Stronks and co-promotor Dr. Irene van Valkengoed at the Department of Public Health at the University of Amsterdam, and obtained her PhD in 2020.
